Vicki Baroco Private Art Collection
First City Art Center is hosting the Vicki Baroco Collection, an exhibition of local, national and international artists. The art is an eclectic collection of paintings and sculpture collected by Ms. Baroco since age 18. When asked about the wide variety of work, Ms. Baroco, a true patron of the arts, said, “I collect what I like.” Art in the collection runs the gamut from a Greek Icon to an African mask of beads and cowrie shells from the Kuba tribe of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The Outsider Art of Toby Hollinghead, a whimsical driftwood sculpture by Chris Cumbie and works of art by well-known local artists will also be included in the exhibit. Of the 45 works on display, more than half are of various other mediums from well-known local artists. The Vicki Baroco Collection will be on exhibit from August 8 through September 8, with an opening reception set from 6 to 8 pm on August 8. There is no charge for admission to the Gallery at First City Art Center, located at 1060 N. Guillemard St. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday from 9 am to 3 pm and Saturdays from 10 am to 2 pm.
